Matchday Guide

Getting to St James' Park

St James' Park sits right in the middle of Newcastle city centre — closer to the shops and pubs than most Premier League grounds get to their city — which makes matchday straightforward if you know where you're headed. Here's the ground's address, capacity, and the quickest ways to reach it on foot, by Metro or by train.

Getting There

Matchday Tips

  1. Build in extra time on the Metro. St James station gets busy fast in the hour before kick-off, and trains run more frequently but more crowded on matchdays — leaving the platform a bit earlier than you think you need to is rarely a bad call.
  2. The city centre is your concourse. Because the ground is embedded in the city rather than out in a retail park, Grainger Street, the Bigg Market and Grey Street all fill up with fans pre-match — good if you want a pub with atmosphere, worth avoiding if you'd rather get there early and beat the queues.
  3. Away end and disabled access. Facilities and access points change from season to season — always check the current details on the official club site before you travel, especially if you need step-free access or are picking up away tickets.
  4. Driving isn't the easy option. There's very limited matchday parking directly around the ground; the Metro from a park-and-ride site (Regent Centre, Four Lane Ends, or similar) is usually far less hassle than trying to park in the city centre.
  5. Check the kick-off time, not just the date. Newcastle's fixtures move for TV regularly — a Saturday 3pm on the original schedule can end up a Sunday or a Monday night by the time broadcasters pick it, so always confirm the actual kick-off time close to the date.
Ground details (address, capacity, transit) are checked periodically against public sources but can change — always confirm against the official club site before you travel. Last checked: 16 September 2026.
